Technologies: What is Podcasting?

What is a podcast? How is a podcast used? How is a podcast made? These are all questions that surround this new technology which is rapidly growing in popularity. For starters, podcasts are audio (and sometimes audio and video) files that can be downloaded onto an iPod, MP3 player, or onto a computer. They consist of various subject matter but are most often used for interviews, marketing for businesses and individuals, and distributing school lessons. Individuals can make podcasts of their own and upload them to the Internet or subscribe to others using an RSS feed. There are many companies that offer podcasting services, including distribution of the shows to subscribers. These feeds are also available on company websites and at iTunes.

Technologies: Making the Right Call with VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) allows you to make a phone call over the Internet without the use of the traditional telephone company. When the telephone system was first developed over 100 years ago, it was essentially a microphone/speaker setup where point-to-point copper lines connected callers to one another or through circuit switching stations across longer distances. This basic system of telephony is what most of us remember using since we were children and has been the standard, with relatively few changes, until recently. In the 1990s, with the advent of the Internet, people started considering how to reliably and economically send voice data over an Internet connection rather than through the traditional phone system. VoIP is the result of that endeavor. Today, simply by installing easy-to-use software onto your computer or purchasing an inexpensive phone adapter, you can make free or cheap phone calls using the Internet. Companies like Vonage are also providing customers with alternative methods to standard phone service.

Technologies: Solar Energy

Let there be light. Though the origin of these words might be uncertain, it mean as much as now when it was uttered the first time. Centuries ago it was considered to be just another star. There was no understanding about it then. It was a mystery which hasn't been solved even now. It continues to baffle humans even now. The sun is the universe's source of energy, light and heat. Being the omnipotent source of energy, it is only logical to utilize it as a source of energy for human consumption.
